Sakura Cafe 1st Anniv. "Rakugo in English"
Sakura Cafe Hatagaya celebrated its first anniversary! To commemorate this special occasion, Kimie Oshima performed "Rakugo in English" for us.
Sakura Hotel Jimbocho is one of the sponsors of the festival, so
all residents in Sakura House were invited to participate! Carry the Mikoshi Shrine in traditional outfit:)
KAMI-SHIBAI is a form of storytelling that originated from Japanese Buddhist temples during the 12th century and literally means "paper drama". During this event 2 stories were presented in English, then we went to an IZAKAYA:)
It's like a potluck.
Sakura House residents brought some snack and food, (it's something in particular from their country) and drinks, and we enjoyed a Hanami Party together.
About 10 girls joined us to make their own nice cell-phone charm and have a great time with Japanese traditional musical instrument, "Shamisen" in Sakura Hotel Hatagaya.
We enjoyed "ASAKUSA All-in-One Party" together. As the name suggests, this party will include every activities you like,
such as sightseeing in ASAKUSA, Sushi making and listening to live Violin
at Sakura Hostel.
There was a special opportunity which is the Special Event, “International Project –
Let’s enjoy communicating with Japanese friends in Harajuku” on Saturday, September 19th, 2009.
We made our own UCHIWA at Brand-New Cafe in Sakura Hotel Hatagaya. After making UCHIWA, we went to Sumida Fireworks Festival with own UCHIWA and enjoyed summer events in Japan together!
Sakura Cafe & Restaurant served new start menu in buffet style and Wine, Cocktails and Japanese beer for people who joined the party!

We experienced Noh Workshop in Sakura Hotel Jimbocho on June 19th.
Noh is a major form of classic Japanese musical drama (play) that has been performed since the 14th century.Everybody We enjoyed the Noh world!
The Institute for Japanese Cultural Exchange and Experience (IJCEE) organized a formal Japanese Tea Ceremony and Japamese traditional string instrument recital at Kanda Myojin (Shrine)!
Around 90 guests from Sakura House and Sakura Hostel joined our SUMO tour!
After the Sumo competition, about 40 guests joined our CHANKO party. Chanko, is a Sumo wrestler's meal which we cook meat and vegetable altogether in a big pot.
We had a Sushi party at Sakura Hostel Asakusa and made own sushi and ate! After the sushi making, we had a potluck party under sakura trees along the Sumida River!
KIMONO and TEA CEREMONY are the most important symbols of traditional Japanese culture. Sakura House organized a special Kimono and Tea Ceremony event to promote the long-established customs. How beautiful they are!l
Human Academy Japanese Language School and Sakura House collaborated in this event! After participants learned Japanese at Human Academy Japanese Language School, they tried it out immediately during lunch at Sakura Cafe & Restaurant and for the rest of the tour!
Tsukiji is world-renowned for its seafood market, but actually there are many more places worth a visit, such as the Tsukiji Honganji Temple and the Kabukiza Threatre across the street in Higashi Ginza. Our friends from Sakura House took this opportunity to find out how interesting the area is!
HARAJUKU is one of the most popular towns for fashion and trendy stores in Tokyo. We explored 1)Oriental bazaar 2)Design Festa Gallery 3)Okonomiyaki at Sakuratei 4)Meiji Shrine in a day!

Sakura House tenants are invited to the AWAODORI in Nakameguro again this year! We danced around Nakameguro station about 3 hours! We felt the souls of festival with the local people.
Sumida River Fireworks Festival is one of the largest Fireworks Festival in Tokyo and has a long history. We had a party at Sakura Hostel Asakusa and went to the fireworks festival!
Sakura Hotel, one of our sister company invited Sakura House tenants to Misaki Shrine Festival. It holds on every two years, and the luckiest 10 Sakura House tenants joined and carried portable shrine with local people!
Hanami Party is an annual Sakura event! The cherry trees of this year were in full blossom. In the evening, the cherry trees showed us another side of their beauty. Over 60 people came to the party and we had a great time!
Jimbocho summer festival is an annual festival. Even the festival was small, we could enjoy the local atmosphere, foods with very cheap price and portraits by comic artists!
It was a little bit strange group with 15 men and 1 girl , but it went well!! Good weather and nice mates!!
Mt. Nokogiri is located in Chiba prefecture. Nokogiriyama ("saw-mountain"), as its name implies, is shaped like the teeth of a saw.
Even it was a little bit early for Hanami, we enjoy a lot with new mates!!
* Hanami is Japanese custom going out to places such as parks to appreciate and enjoy leisurely the beautifully blooming cherry blossoms.
Harajuku B House enjoy throwing a good house party and during one of their recent bashes they were filmed for a TV documentary about people who live in Harajuku.
Before this event, Kuramae guesthouse 4th floor was rather quiet and tenants were somehow
silent. It happened that they were celebrating late Christmas on December
27th 2006 as their a "Bonenkai (Year-end party)". Few tenants started by sharing
their common interest about music and brought their instruments to play
their own compositions. It really seemed to be a harmony when they also
started singing. When the nice tunes filled up the air, all the tenants of
the floor came one by one out of their rooms, listened, singing songs, and
gathered talking all together for the very first time. "We're just like a
family, had known each other..."
Sakura House staff taught how to make three popular japanese
cuisines; Norimaki, Teriyaki, Miso soup and Shiratama-shiruko.
It was so precious to share that time with the joyful atmoshphere!
Awaodori is a traditional Japanese dance, and every August groups of elaborately
dressed men, women and children gather in the streets to enjoy the rhythm
of pounding drums, high-pitched bamboo flutes and a variety of traditional
Japanese instruments.
